Ridgefield, Connecticut Home

The Project

For this project, our clients sought to balance contemporary style with calming notes while addressing the practical needs of their day-to-day life. As a young and growing family of creatives, they wanted their weekend house to reflect their aesthetic and act as a haven from their busy city life. Every design decision centered on creating a home that felt tranquil, functional, and deeply connected to its natural surroundings.

The Challenge

Over the years, the house had gone through multiple additions and renovations, leaving it with a mix of materials and finishes that lacked cohesion. Unifying the home through thoughtful design became a key focus. The clients also requested a kitchen that provided the functionality their family required while maintaining a calm, clutter-free environment that reflected the refined simplicity they envisioned.

The Design Approach

Unifying the home through design and materials became a central focus of the project. The wood stain used throughout the house was carefully selected to unify the various wood species while complementing the tilework, creating a consistent visual language. This same millwork stain was carried from the kitchen into the dining room built-ins and media room built-ins, allowing each space to feel connected while maintaining its own purpose. The consistent use of materials ties the rooms together and creates a natural sense of cohesion.

The surrounding landscape also played a significant role in shaping the design. Because the homeowners chose the property for its lush natural setting, the color palette was drawn directly from the environment. Soft muted tones allow the scenery to flourish both inside and outside the home, while various wood tones and muted greens create a tranquil ambiance that blends seamlessly with the landscape. Subtle accents of black ground the design, adding contrast and visual depth without disrupting the sense of calm.

The Results

What had once been a home shaped by years of disconnected additions and renovations became a cohesive retreat that feels intentional from room to room. Unified materials, a restrained palette, and thoughtful architectural details creat a sense of harmony throughout while preserving the warmth and functionality needed for everyday family life. The result is a contemporary weekend sanctuary that reflects the homeowners’ aesthetic, celebrates the surrounding landscape, and provides a peaceful escape from the fast pace of city living.
